We generally recommend that the width or diameter of the chandelier should be between 1 2 and 2 3 of the width of the dining table. If your ceiling is higher than eight feet high the recommended clearance is 36 to 40 inches. 1 chandeliers above dining room tables should have a diameter of 1 2 to 2 3 the width of the table. The diameter of a dining room chandelier should be about one half to two thirds the width of the table over which it will be hanging.

The best way to achieve this is to select a fixture that s diameter is somewhere between half and three quarters the diameter or width of the tabletop. If your ceiling is less than eight feet high your dining room chandelier should hang 30 to 34 from the table top to the bottom of the chandelier and be centered over the table. For the length of the table you want to make sure that the chandelier s length is at least 12 inches less than the table. If you are choosing a round chandelier its diameter should be between 16 32 x 1 2 to 21 32 x 2 3 inches.

For example if the dining room table was 48 wide x 60 long the chandelier that is 24 to 36 in diameter would be an appropriate size to compliment the table. Another version of this rule is that the diameter of the fixture should be about 1 foot less in diameter than the width of the dining room table at its widest point. For example my table is 83 inches long which would suggest i could use a chandelier up to 70 inches long. For example let s say that you have a dining table with 32 inches in width and 66 inches in length.
